Overview
The following trainings are mandatory for all UCSF researchers (including faculty and staff researchers, as well as postdoctoral scholars). Researchers are defined as those individuals who receive even $1 in extramural funding for research, or who are listed as "key personnel" on a UCSF research project.
UCSF Researchers Must Complete the Following Four Mandatory Trainings
1. UC Ethics and Compliance Briefing for Researchers (ECBR)
Training Requirements
The ECBR training must be completed every two years.
Researchers should review the content areas relevant to their research, and note that the briefing requires an attestation at the end of the course to affirm their meaningful participation.
Researchers receiving extramural funding must be current on their ECBR training in order to access their extramural funds.
Content
The required ECBR training promotes awareness of the UC Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct and conveys important information about the UC disclosure requirements that apply to all employees and the specific disclosure requirements for researchers who accept extramural research funds.
The briefing also covers the following topic areas: Export Control, NSF Current & Pending Support, NIH Other Support and Foreign Component disclosures, UC Conflict of Commitment, and the Whistleblower and Whistleblower Protection Policies.
The ECBR module satisfies the COI training requirement for investigators imposed by Public Health Service (PHS) agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other entities that adopt PHS requirements.
Completion Time
The ECB training takes approximately 30 – 60 minutes to complete.
Legacy Training Module
Researchers who completed the previous “Conflict of Interest for Researchers” (COIR) training module prior 12/31/2021 will be required to complete the new ECBR training two years from the date of completion of the most recent COIR training.
2. UC Preventing Harassment and Discrimination
All UCSF employees are required to complete UC's training on preventing harassment and discrimination.
3. UC Cyber Security Awareness Fundamentals (Cyber Awareness)
All UCSF employees are required to complete UC's training on cybersecurity.
4. UCSF Foundations of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
UCSF is tracking completion rates for UCSF's DEI course.
