Investigations Unit

The role of the Investigations Unit (IU)* is to act as a neutral investigator for complaints of alleged violations of University policies brought forth by staff, faculty, students, patients, vendors or applicants.  Investigation findings are based on whether there has been a violation of a University policy as opposed to laws that may have been violated.   

Complaints are referred to the IU for formal investigation by several University departments, which include but are not limited to: Audit and Advisory Services or I-Group, Labor and Employee Relations (LER) and the Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination (OPHD).

The scope of IU’s investigations includes complaints that allege discrimination and harassment on the basis of state and federally recognized protected categories, which include but are not limited to, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender expression, gender identity, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), genetic information (including family medical history), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services.  The IU also investigates complaints of retaliation, whistleblower, and whistleblower retaliation.
