We are pleased to announce the appointment of Vanessa Ridley to the position of Chief UCSF Health Compliance Officer effective October 9, 2017.

Ms. Ridley joined the University of California in 2017 as the Director of Healthcare Compliance & Privacy at the UC Office of the President in Oakland. In that role she was responsible for system-wide coordination of compliance activities among UC’s five academic medical centers and 18 health professional schools. Previously, Ms. Ridley served as the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer for the County of Santa Clara Health & Hospital System, leading initiatives to promote compliance with various federal and state laws and regulations, including those related to fraud and abuse, reimbursement and HIPAA.

Ms. Ridley’s other experience includes a Presidential Management Fellowship with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and serving as the Director of Research Operations & Compliance for the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Ms. Ridley earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School, Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego.

In her role, Ms. Ridley will direct UCSF’s Clinical Enterprise Compliance Program, which is responsible for assisting the University and its employees in complying with all applicable laws and regulations relating to the documentation and reimbursement of patient services.   Acting under guidance from the Department of Health and Human Services and its Office of the Inspector General, our Clinical Enterprise Compliance Program is a key component of our teaching, research, patient care, and public service missions.  Our program is designed to maintain and enhance quality of care for our patients, establish policies and advise on local procedures that implement health care laws and regulations, facilitate communication with government agencies, and empower all responsible parties to prevent, detect, report, and resolve conduct out of compliance with applicable laws and regulations, UCSF’s Code of Conduct, and UC’s Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct.

Please join us in welcoming Vanessa to UCSF.
