Investigations Unit

The Investigations Unit’s (IU)* role is that of a neutral investigator for complaints of alleged violations of University policies brought forth by staff, faculty, students, patients, vendors or applicants. 

Complaints are referred to the IU for formal investigation by the following University intake units: Audit Services or I-Group, Labor and Employee Relations, and the Office of Diversity and Outreach (ODO), who oversees the Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination (OPHD),

The IU’s scope of investigations includes complaints that allege discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender expression, gender identity, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), genetic information (including family medical history), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services.  The IU also investigates complaints of retaliation and Whistleblower Retaliation.

*Effective July 1, 2015, the Investigations Unit (IU), formerly the Human Resources Investigation Unit, moved to the Office of Ethics and Compliance.
